Domonique Venzant |
Domonique was my first apprentice. In his final year of college he discovered clay, and left Augustana College armed with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Armed with this degree he started on his quest to find his voice in clay. We worked together on defining what an apprenticeship is, and on getting him into graduate School. |
|
Domonique had access to studio space at his family's farm in Symco, a half hour away, so we never shared studio space. But He was involved in 2 anagama firing here at Mill Creek, and two anagama firing workshops I taught; One at Syracuse University and the other at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Much of our time was spent developing critique, how to think about work, and probing Domonique’s interests in Clay as a tool. Dom has some very big ideas that use clay to reflect on social issues, this is coupled with a fearless exploration of the Material qualities of clay. Currently (Jan 2007) Domonique is finishing his second year of Graduate school at Mizzou, studying with Bede Clarke and David East |
